Lebron goes to Heat

Cleveland, Ohio 7/8/10

LeBron "The King" James made his decision to go the Miami Heat. He will link up with other NBA stars Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. Miami should be a great contender to win the NBA Championship in this next season. I was personally hoping he would move, to spread the talent around to other NBA teams. This should be an exciting season all around. NBA Basketball has not been that popular for a while(at least in this area). If you look in New York, the Knicks acquired Amar'e Stoudemire from the Phoenix were they already have Steve Nash. Pau Gasol also may be on the move in L.A. Paul Pierce was released from the Celtics. Even If you look right here in D.C., we have the #1 draft pick in the draft, John Wall. The NBA is bound only to get more popular around the country. This should be a great year for the NBA!

Strasburg is the man

Hey everyone! Sorry I havent posted in a REALLY long time, My computer has been down for quite some time.

Washington, DC 6/8/10

Stephen Strasburg is the real deal. With 14 strike outs and only 4 hits allowed, Strasburg was on FIRE!!!!!!!!!! He was throwing 100 mph fastballs like nobody's buisness. This guy could lead the Nats into the playoffs. For the first time, Nationals park was crazily overcrowded. I never thought I would see them win, but they are now. Strasburg's pitching and Zimmerman's home run won the game 5-2 over the Pirates who didn't stand a chance. It was a good time to start Stephen because he was up against the leagues second worst team and he was at home. His next game will be on Thursday @ Cleveland. Make sure to watch it!!!

HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT

Washington, DC 4/28/10
Well Im not sure how, but they lost. They did what they had to do to lose. They could have ended it in game 5, but they decided to mess everything up. I guess that whole "Amazing Season" was for nothing. They should have gone all the way. Ovechkin openly apologized to DC, but saying sorry aint gonna fix the problem this time, buddy. All of their previous series they have had to come back. The one DC team that actually gave me hope, encouraged me to keep my head up, has crushed the hearts of thousands of DC sports fans in the area. I'm tired of hearing "We'll get 'em next year" or "I think this is the year". Of all my years of fanism, this has been the worst dissapointment yet. All of that time and energy watching and covering the Caps all this year... I wish I could have gone into the past and told myself it was all for nothing. I know I'm being hard on them, but they deserve it. So Ovi, you should be sorry. Sincerely, Sam_theDC_fan

What the caps need to do to win

Montreal, Quebec, Canada 4/20/10
The Caps finnaly can breath a sigh of relief. They won 5-1 last night, and now have a 2 games to one series lead over Montreal. I'd say if we win tommorow, its over. I mean, all the pressure is on them now. We just blew them out of their own building. It was'nt even funny. All the grinders scored for the caps. Boyd Gordon, Matt Bradley, and Eric Fehr all pitched in. Now Halak got pulled, and the last thing the Canadiens want is to lose game 4. If the Caps do win, The series will go back to DC with a 3-1 series lead and will probaly close out the series. But if the Habs win, this will be a long series. So game 4 is critical for both teams(as usual). Ovechkin(who scored the other night) will really want to end the series as fast as possible, so they can get ready for the next round. So lets look to the next round, shall we? The caps play the winner of Boston-Buffalo. The Bruins have a 2-1 lead in the series, and I am hoping for them to win, being the lowest scoring team in the league. If Buffalo wins, the Caps will face Olympic hero Ryan Miller , who is always a tough task to beat.LETS GO CAPS! Playoff time everybody!

Caps Win!!!!!!!!!!!, tie series 1-1

Washington, DC 4/17/10
The caps did it. They pulled it off. I'm not sure how, but they won! What a great game. I thought the Habs had it in the bag with a 3 goal lead late in the second period, but I (fortunately) was wrong. The caps pulled another one out of the bag. With a hat trick from Nick Backstrom and 4 points from Ovi, its almost impossible for them to lose. I was really getting sick of Montreal beating us at home, but the caps pulled through for me. An unsuspecting hero tied the game for the Caps, with about a minute and a half left in regulation. 2o-year old American defenseman John Carlson beat Halak to tie. Not many people know him, so here is a short bio. Carlson is from Natwick, Massachusetts. He was drafted by the Caps in '08, but has mostly plays in the AHL for Hershey. He had one goal and 5 assists in the regular season, and has shown great improvement in the playoffs, playing in botyh games 1 & 2 for DC. Not to mention he won the world junior tournament in OT for the US in January, which really caught peoples eyes. Congrats John, and do more of that in the future. Before tonight, the caps had'nt won a playoff game at home in OT since 1998, which sent them to their only Stanaley Cup final. I hope that means something! Thanks for reading and come back soon for coverage of game 3 in Montreal.

NHL Playoff preview

All over the United States and Canada 4/13/10
The Capitals will see the Montreal Candian' on Thursday for the first game of the series. Since the Caps have home ice advantage, the first, second, fifth, and seventh games will all be played at the Verizon Center in D.C. The Caps are heavily favored, but they never seem to get big-headed. Instead of "lets go as far as we can'' as their playoff motivator, its "Stanley cup or bust". Acyually, the Caps are most peoples picks to win the whole thing. In the playoffs, you need mostly 2 things. Lots of scoring, and Goaltending. They certainly can score, having eight 20+ goal scorers and thirteen 10+ goal scorers. They caps also have great goaltending in Varlamov and Theodore, who have combined for only 11 regulation losses. Here are the matchups of the Eastern Conference playoffs:

1. Washington
8. Montreal

2. New Jersey
7. Philadelphia

3. Buffalo
6. Boston

4. Pittsburgh
5. Ottawa

Caps sweep Pens in season series

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 4/7/10
The Washington Capitals have sweept the pittsburgh penguins in the regular season with a 6-3 win last night. A big factor in this series(other than ovechkin) has been Mike Knuble. He has scored in all 4 games against pittsburgh this season. As for Ovi, he scored 7 goals in the series! But for the pens, who have also been swept by their rival New Jersey, it doesn't seem to affect them. They have gone 0-8 against those teams, yet still have their mind set on the playoffs. Also the goal scoring title (or the rocket richard trophy) is heating up. With 2 games left, it is between 3 players: Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, and Steven Stamkos. Alex and Sid both have 48, and Stamkos has 47. If you don't know, Stamkos is an early prospect in Tampa Bay, and has a great shot. I hope Ovi wins. Crosby doesn't deserve it. The reason those 2 are close is because Alex was injured for 10 games, and suspended for 5. So, it would'nt be right for Crosby to win, who hasn't missed a game this season. The Caps will face 2 pretty bad defensive teams in Boston and Atlanta, so Ovi should hve an edge. Good luck Alex!

REDSKINS AQUIRE MCNABB!

Ashburn, Virginia 4/5/10
The Redskins aquired Eagles quarterback Donovan Mcnabb yesterday for a second round draft pick in this year's draft. This is very exciting. I just hope this isn't another mistake by Dan Snyder. So now, I 'm pretty sure it's safe to say bye-bye Jason Campbell! With the Redskins stacked with talent at QB, I domt think that position will be a problem. So right now they have 2 pro-bowlers, a super bowl champion, and a heisman nominated quarterback all on the same roster. I'm not sure you can ask for more. But, keep in mind that Mr. Snyder has done stuff like this in the past, and he has come up way short of expectations(Just think of Mark Brunell!). So it will not be long until Jason Campbell asks for a trade. So I'm sorry if you LIKE him(even though I'm not sure who would) he will be parting from DC very soon. Although they might keep him... Anyway this also means they probaly won't go for Sam Bradford this year, and will probaly get a good offensive-lineman instead. That's all for now, keep coming back(Sorry I haven't posted in a while, Iv'e been busy lately with my birthday).

Cornerback problems for the Redskins

Arlington, Virginia 3/31/10
The Redskins look to add some depth to the cornerback position by signing first-round draft pick Philip Buchanon, after the releasing of Fred Smoot. It seems to me that the secondary has been messed up again for the 'skins. Three years ago in the 2007 seson, they had the perfect cornerback and safety positions. They had experience in Shaun Springs and Fred Smoot, and young talent in Carlos Rogers. For the safety position, they had hard-hitting Shawn Taylor and young but talented Laron Landry. I was very comfortable with this, but then things went downhill. Springs missed 4-5 weeks with an ankle sprain and we all know about the Shawn Taylor incident. So that left Reed Doughty to fill in, but he struggled. For the '08 season Owner Dan Snyder released Springs, putting another hole in the defense, and it put pressure on Rogers and Smoot. Then, Snyder had to sign Deangelo Hall a big name corner from Oakland. He tried to build a defense around the 5'10" Hall, and it evidently did not work. Hall gets alot of interceptions but cannot cover anyone! He always gets beat, and he can't tackle, either. So I hope this Buchanon guy does well. Keep reading!

Caps look forward to home-ice in playoffs

Washington, D.C. 3/29/10
Although they lost on Sunday, the Caps have clinched the Eastern conference and home-ice advantage in the playoffs. The New jersey loss put them over the top. I don't think it's enough. I they have played amazing this season but they at least need to go deep in the playoffs. That's a lot of pressure, but they can handle it. I'm being hard on them, but I agree with coach Boudreau, they haven't proven their able to win the Stanley Cup. The players are happy with this accomplishment, as am I. They deserve home-ice advantage and they got it. Don't get me wrong, they are a great team, but they'll only be great if they go all the way. Coach Boudreau didn't want to celebrate a loss, but was grateful for what they did during the regular season. Now all they have to do is rest and get healthy for the playoffs. It looks like they will face one of three teams in the first round:
  1. Montreal
  2. Atlanta
  3. Philadelphia
  4. Boston

So good luck Caps!!!!! See Ya!

Duke and Michigan State get to Final Four

Houston, Texas 3/28/10

Well I didn't get what I wanted. Duke and Michigan State both won. I feel so wrong. Why did this happen?! Well the last thing I want is Duke in the final. So, Go West Virginia! I guess. I also have found hatrid for Coach K. of Duke(There is no way I'm spelling out his entire last name). His teams always beats Maryland. Anyway I am very impressed with Baylor and how they have played. As for Michigan State, they had to beat a good team in Tennessee as well. Michigan State will play Butler and Duke will play West Virginia in the Final Four next Saturday. Actually, Sports Illustrated picked 2 of Reigons correct! They had Duke play West Virginia in the Final Four, which is what's happenning! As for the other reigons, they did'nt do so well. So all I'm asking is that Puke University will play like garbage against West Virginia. If Michigan state wins, they will have been in the final for 2 years straight. For my sake, let Duke and Michigan State lose!!!! It will be an exciting couple of games, although I don't like the teams. So have fun watching next Saturday's games!

WVU and Butler make it to Final Four

IMPORTANT NEWS!!! This is the one week anniversary of my blog! I have really enjoyed writing it much more than I ever thought I would. Thanks so much for reading, leaving comments and E-mailing me, because it really encourages me to keep writing (or typing :). Please don't hesitate to make any suggestions too. Thanks alot, and read this post on Butler and West Virginia. (PS: Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I was on a short trip)

Salt Lake City, Utah and Syracuse, New York 3/27/10

The Butler Bulldogs and the West Virginia Mountaneers will go to Indianapolis For the 2010 NCAA Final Four. For West Virginia, this is their first trip to the Final Four in 51 years! For Butler, this is their first trip since 1929!!!!!!!! Unfortunately for me, I have a bit of a grudge with both teams. 3 years ago, Butler beat Maryland in the Sweet 16, and West Virginia just seems to beat us in every sport. But it's good to see some new teams finally make it to the Final Four. I'm having a hard time typing this but here it goes: Good Luck Butler and West Virginia. Whew, glad that's over. Anyway, I'm sure you're brackets are messed up(I know mine are) because all the one seeds in the tournament have been elimentated(except duke)! I kind of knew the one seeds wouldn't have been that great in this this tournament, and I was right. Butler is located only six miles from Indianapolis, and only one other team in history has had a shorter trip than them. I didn't know the Bulldogs were that good, or that they were able to make it this far into the tournament. So I'm impressed with them. As for West Virginia, they did win the Big East Tournament, and they were a 2-seed, so I could have seen it coming. Today, Duke will play Baylor, and Michigan State will play Tennesee. I think you know who I want to win those games. I definetly do not want Duke or Michigan State to make it to the Final Four. So just for today I will be Baylor and Tennesee fans. So good luck with you're brackets and I'll write again soon.

Caps win in style, 4-3

Washington, D.C.
The Capitals won in stunning fashion last night, beating the Penguins 4-3 in a shootout. For some reason the Penguins can't seem to finish off the Capitals, especially when the Caps are at home. The last Penguins-Capitals game the Pens had a 4-1 lead, but the Caps came back to win with Ovechkin's exciting hat-trick. This time around, the Pens were up 2-1 in the 3rd period, but then Alex Semin and Eric fehr scored for Washington. Not to mention the amazing goalie play by Jose Theodore in the 3rd, saving the game for the Caps. But with a 3-2, lead, Jordan Staal tied for Pittsburgh with 3 minutes left. This game would take OT and a shootout for a winner. The Penguins were 7-1 in shoot-outs and I thought it would be hard for DC to win. They couldnt do it. They just couldnt lose. It wasn't possible with all the fans on their feet. So Mike Knuble decided to score his first-ever shoot-out goal and win it. I was amazed(as always) by the Capitals. If they keep playing this way, with great goal-tending and awesome scoring abilities(5-on-5, short-handed or on the power-play) they will go deep in this playoffs.Another Capitals post, keep coming back for more!!!!!!!!!!

Caps get ready for big game against Penguins

Washington, D.C. 3/24/10
I am so glad I got that last post out of my system. Now, to the real reason I'm writing this post.
The caps will play their last home game against the penguins this season, but hope to play them in the post-season. To them, only the playoffs can make up for what happened last year. In case you don't know, the capitals and the penguins played in a semi-final series, and some call it the best series ever. The series went to overtime 3 of the games. Ovechkin and Crosby both scored hat-tricks (3 goals) in one of the games. And of course, the series went to 7 games. Everyone thought it would be the game of the decade. But the Penguins won 6-2, in DC. No one knows what happened to the Caps that night. Anyway, that memory still lingers in the head of all the players, especially Ovechkin. The Caps lead the season series 2-0, but still must play the Penguins twice before the playoffs. If they are lucky, they will play Pittsburgh again in the postseason. If not, the only thing that can erase that memory would be a Stanley Cup, which is very possible for the them. The game will be on Comcast Sportsnet. Channel 10 for Comcast, or 76 for Verizon Fios. Thanks for reading!

Why Dallas Fans, Why?

I'm really mad right now.Recently, I was doing community service for my school. After we finished, the custodian asked me what grade I was in. I said "7th". Now it just so happens that I was wearing some of my redskins gear (as usual) , and he told me: "You won't be comin' back to this school next year if you keep wearing that sweater"! He was joking, of course. But it just reminds me of how much I hate the Dallas Cowboys!!! My school is crawling with Dallas fans! How can you say you're a Dallas fan, when you're born and raised in DC, and have probably never even been to Dallas. It's like saying; I dont want to be American, so I'll just be Canadian instead. That's what is wrong with this country. I just don't get it.Would someone tell me why this is? I feel like every time I walk down the hall, I hear "Redskins Suck" at least once. Give me a break please. So I wrote this post about the teams I hate:

First:
Teams that I Strongly Dislike
New York Giants
Philadelphia Eagles
North Carolina Tarheels

Second:
TEAMS THAT I TRUELY DESPISE

PUKE Blue Devils I hate these guys because they always seem to beat Maryland, like in 2001 when Maryland had a 10- point lead and Duke came back to win with 53 seconds left!!

Pittsburgh Penguins I actually just hate the city of Pittsburgh; and also because the Crosby-Ovechkin rivalry in last years' playoffs. The Caps have also played the Pens 8 times in the playoffs, and the Penguins have won 7 of 8.

and of course, the worst of them all,
THOSE DALLAS COWGIRLS!!!!!!! The Redskins have always hated the Cowboys!!!! Dallas always has the worst fans in any sport; and the worst thing about that, THEY ARE EVERYWHERE! They wont stop yapping about how "good" they are. I think they need to crawl back to their toilet bowl they call a stadium, and zip their mouths!! I also hate that ugly, stupid star on their helmet. They aren't, and don't deserve to be "America's team" (Kudos to George Allen for hating Dallas so much!)

ESPN hates D.C.

Washington, D.C. ummm, forever!
Have you ever noticed how ESPN hates on DC sports? I know I have. Every time any of my teams win or lose, they always show the other teams' highlights. It really sickens me. That's why I watch CSN Instead of ESPN. They LOVE dallas ( By the way, those cowgirls are NOT America's team!!!!!!, if anyone should be "America's Team" it's US!!) or really any team I hate. We are the capital of the nation after all, and deserve some respect. If you have anything to say about this, please comment, because I am sick of it. See ya!

The New-look Nationals

Viera, Florida 3/22/10
The Nats are coming off a 7-5 spring training win over the Mets, and could have a promising season. You're probaly saying I've lost it, when the Nats have been the worst in the league since the beginning of their existance. But it never hurts to give the guys a chance. My season prediction will be short of a playoff spot, but they'll have a shot at it. Steven Strausburg looks promising at the mound, and Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn can really bring it at the plate. The Nats are in a good posiion, believe or not. They've got a beautiful stadium, a good fan base, and no one expects anything of them this season. So MLB, watch out for the Nationals this season they could (emphasis on could) be a contender in the 2010 season. They look to have a weak division this year, which could really play into their hands. Let us all hope for the best with the Nationals in 2010. See ya!
